At 4655 Rock Barn Road in Shingle Springs, California—in El Dorado County in the Sierra Nevada foothills where the California Gold Rush's 49er heritage, the Apple Hill agricultural district's orchard and winery culture, and the transition from the Sacramento Valley's summer heat to the mountain elevation's cooler temperatures create the specific Gold Country identity that US Highway 50's corridor between Sacramento and South Lake Tahoe contains—Placerville RV Resort and Campground provides full hookup RV sites, cabins, tent sites, a water slide, Pee Wee golf, a petting zoo, a KOA-affiliated train, and the Sierra foothill setting that makes the Shingle Springs property the campground closest to the historic Placerville downtown and the El Dorado County wine country accessible without requiring a drive to the mountains. The petting zoo, the train, and the water slide reflect the property's orientation toward families with children; the Apple Hill proximity and the winery access extend the adult programming calendar. Full hookup RV sites with 30 and 50-amp electric, water, and sewer connections accommodate the full range of RV configurations with pull-through and back-in options. Cabins provide the enclosed lodging alternative at the Sierra foothills elevation. Tent sites serve the traditional camping guest. A swimming pool provides the warm-season heat relief that the El Dorado County summer temperatures at 1,600 feet elevation make particularly welcome between the Sacramento Valley's triple-digit heat and the Sierra Nevada's higher-elevation cool. A water slide extends the pool's aquatic entertainment. A Pee Wee golf course, petting zoo, KOA-affiliated train, playground, arts and crafts program, arcade, and pet park complete the family activity programming that the campground's family orientation generates across both on-property and scheduled activity formats. A fishing pond provides the easy first-fishing experience that the youngest campers need before the parent drive to a trout stream makes sense. Apple Hill—the marketing collective of El Dorado County's orchard farms, wineries, and specialty food producers that has been drawing Sacramento-area families to the foothills since the 1960s—operates its most active programming from September through December when the apple harvest, cider pressing, pumpkin patches, and Christmas tree farms open across the member properties scattered through the Camino-area foothills. The Apple Hill drive is the single most popular family day trip from any El Dorado County base camp, and the campground's proximity makes the orchard-hopping and cider-tasting circuit accessible as a morning activity before afternoon pool time. Downtown Placerville—five minutes from the campground—provides the Gold Rush mining heritage that El Dorado County's historical identity is built around: the Main Street's 1850s-era commercial buildings, the El Dorado County Historical Museum, and the specific Gold Rush character of a town that was one of the busiest mining supply depots in the Mother Lode before the placer gold ran out. South Lake Tahoe—50 miles east on Highway 50—provides the Sierra Nevada mountain lake destination that a one-hour scenic drive through the American River canyon delivers for guests who want the alpine lake contrast to the foothill base camp. Placerville RV Resort and Campground is open year-round in El Dorado County's four-season foothill climate. The summer family camping season peaks in July and August, and the Apple Hill harvest season in September and October creates a second demand surge. Reserve early for summer weekends and the Apple Hill season, let the kids introduce themselves to the petting zoo animals, and let the El Dorado County foothills earn the Gold Country reputation that California history put on the maps 175 years ago.
