Mayfield Lake Resort & Marina
Mossyrock, Washington
21 Cabins, 7 Tent Sites, 10 Motel Rooms
Mayfield Lake Resort and Marina sits at the south end of Lake Mayfield in Mossyrock, Washington, a reservoir on the Cowlitz River in Lewis County where the lake's forested shoreline, calm water, and the proximity of two iconic Pacific Northwest volcanoes—Mount Rainier and Mount St. Helens—combine to produce one of the more complete outdoor recreation bases in a region famous for its scenic density. The resort accommodates the full spectrum of accommodation from RV sites to cabins, cottages, and hotel rooms, and the on-site marina makes it a genuine boat-in option for guests arriving or departing by water.
Large full hookup RV sites with 30 and 50-amp service, water, and sewer are the foundation, expanded by cabins, cottage accommodations, and hotel-style rooms that allow mixed-party groups to combine RV and non-RV accommodation at a single property. A marina with boat launch and slips, seasonal restaurant, year-round convenience store, playground, covered pavilion, propane exchange, and Starlink WiFi provide the comprehensive service that a multi-day lake stay requires. Boat, kayak, and pedal boat rentals are available on-site, and the resort's recreational calendar includes swimming, waterskiing, wakeboarding, tubing, canoeing, kayaking, and freshwater fishing—a full water recreation inventory without leaving the property.
Lake Mayfield occupies a reservoir basin where the Cowlitz River was impounded by Riffe Dam in the 1960s, creating a 2,200-acre lake backed by the forested ridges of the lower Cascade foothills. The lake's clear, cold water and undeveloped shoreline give it a character more reminiscent of alpine recreation lakes than the developed reservoir communities that typify lowland impoundments in the Pacific Northwest. Fishing on the lake targets smallmouth bass, yellow perch, rainbow trout, and the kokanee salmon that make reservoir fishing in the Cowlitz watershed productive across multiple species and techniques.
Mount Rainier National Park, the most topographically dominant peak in the contiguous United States at 14,411 feet, is accessible for day trips that deliver the subalpine meadow hiking, wildflower displays, and glacier viewing that make it one of the most visited national parks in the Pacific Northwest. The White Pass Scenic Byway runs from Mossyrock through the park's corridor to Yakima, providing the route that delivers the most direct access from the resort to Rainier's southern and southwestern approaches. Mount St. Helens National Volcanic Monument, about 45 minutes south, preserves the landscape of the 1980 eruption and the remarkable ecological recovery that has made it one of the most scientifically significant active volcanic landscapes in the world—the blast zone's regeneration is visible from the Johnston Ridge Observatory in one of the most striking before-and-after landscapes in North American natural history.
Mayfield Lake Resort and Marina operates through the Pacific Northwest camping season, with the combination of lake activities and volcano day trips making it a genuinely complete outdoor recreation base from Memorial Day through Labor Day. The White Pass Ski Area provides winter recreation access for off-season visitors, and fall is one of the most rewarding times to visit with the Cowlitz watershed's big-leaf maple and vine maple turning gold and red across the forested ridges. Reservations for summer weekend stays should be secured well ahead given the resort's reputation and the limited lakefront accommodation in the Cowlitz corridor.
