Silver Cove RV & Cabins Resort

Silver Lake, Washington

36 RV Sites, 6 Cabins, 12 Cottages, 1 Tiny House, 1 Lodge

Silver Cove RV and Cabins Resort sits on the western shore of Silver Lake in Washington's Cowlitz County, 45 minutes from the Mount St. Helens National Volcanic Monument Visitor Center—a lakeside resort in the volcanic landscape of southwest Washington where the still-active Mount St. Helens dominates the eastern horizon and the lake's calm water and wooded shores provide the camping backdrop for one of the Pacific Northwest's most geologically dramatic day trip destinations. The resort's position on Silver Lake, with direct water access and mountain views, makes it an equally appealing destination for fishing and paddling focused visits and for volcanic monument day trips. Full hookup RV sites with 30 and 50-amp service, water, and sewer accommodate RV campers alongside the resort's cabins, which provide rustic enclosed accommodation with waterway access for guests arriving without self-contained vehicles. A boat launch, kayak and paddle boat rentals, and fishing boat rentals provide immediate water access, with horseshoe pits, a disc golf course, a lodge, pavilion, 24-hour ice machine, coin laundry, showers, WiFi, and a gated entry covering the property's amenity and security needs. Boating, fishing, canoeing, kayaking, and paddle boating on Silver Lake provide the primary on-site recreation, and the fishing for bass and panfish in the lake's weedy shallows attracts anglers who want a less pressured alternative to the more heavily fished Cowlitz River system. Silver Lake occupies a basin in the blast zone shadow of Mount St. Helens—the mountain's 1980 eruption deposited the Spirit Lake debris avalanche and the lateral blast's effects across the landscape to the mountain's north, while Silver Lake, to the west, captures the outflow of the Toutle River system that carried massive volumes of volcanic debris to the Cowlitz River in the days and weeks following the eruption. The Mount St. Helens Visitor Center at Silver Lake, operated by Washington State Parks at the base of the volcano's western approach, provides the most comprehensive introduction to the 1980 eruption and its aftermath of any facility in the monument system. The Mount St. Helens National Volcanic Monument, 45 minutes from the resort, allows visitors to observe the ongoing volcanic recovery from multiple viewpoints along the Spirit Lake Highway—from the Coldwater Lake recreation area, created when the debris avalanche dammed a valley to form the new lake, to the Johnston Ridge Observatory, which sits at the edge of the blast zone with direct views of the volcano's active lava dome and the landscape of the crater that erupted so dramatically in 1980. Seaquest State Park, adjacent to the visitor center at Silver Lake, provides hiking in the old-growth timber that survived west of the blast zone's perimeter alongside camping in a Pacific Northwest forest that provides the verdant contrast to the monument's stark volcanic terrain. Silver Cove RV and Cabins Resort operates through the Pacific Northwest camping season, typically April through October, in a climate where southwest Washington's position at a lower elevation than the volcanic monument delivers more reliable spring and fall weather than the monument's alpine terrain. Fall brings one of the best periods for volcanic monument visits when summer crowds thin and the monument's recovery vegetation displays the seasonal color that now covers much of the formerly devastated landscape. Reserve summer weekend sites ahead, as the resort's lakeside position and Mount St. Helens proximity create consistent peak-season demand from the Portland and Seattle metropolitan areas.
