It’s like
getting the best of both worlds. Let’s say you prefer a bit of luxury when
you travel, yet you still want to get out and enjoy the beauty and serenity
of nature. That’s where glamping comes in. The term is a combination of the
words “glamour” and “camping,” and what it really means is that you can enjoy
getting outdoors without giving up the comforts of home like a comfy bed and
hot showers.

The other great news is that you have a lot of choices when it
comes to glamping. There are beautifully-appointed safari tents,
fully-restored vintage Airstream trailers, luxury cottages and log cabins,
just to name a few. Here’s a look at some of the many choices you have across
the USA:

Air Resorts, Spicewood, Texas

Set in the Texas Hill Country, this pet-friendly resort offers a
pool, fire pits, outdoor games, picnic tables, a playground, dog park, cable
TV and free Wi-Fi. For a fun glamping experience, there’s a choice of seven
fully-renovated vintage trailers. Each one is
equipped with an attached porch, outdoor grill, high thread-count sheets,
kitchen appliances, a bathroom and big screen smart TV. They even have fun
names like Lucille, The Jetson, The Minty and Lil’ Buckaroo. Open Air also

Located in the rolling hills of western North Carolina, Emberglow
offers a resort-quality pool, hiking and biking trails, sand volleyball,
sport fields, a community firepit, playground, jump pad, sand volleyball
court, a Gaga Ball pit and a dog park. For glamping, there’s a choice of
vintage campers (including Big Ben, a 1962
double-decker bus), tiny homes,
yurts and glamping
, which are tiny cabins that each sleep two. The resort
also takes advantage of its wooded setting to offer a few different styles of
treehouses, including a family treehouse, a
Bohemian treehouse and primitive treehouses.


Retreat RV and Camping Resort, Huffman,

This pet-friendly resort, located on Lake Houston, offers a wide
variety of amenities, including a clubhouse, fitness center, walking trails,
fishing pier, pool, playground, Gaga Ball pit and mini-golf. There’s even a
BYOB wine and beer garden! Choices for glamping include fully-furnished,
air-conditioned luxury cottages with designer
finishes. The cottages include a charcoal grill, patio, kitchenette, full
bathroom with ADA shower, cable and free Wi-Fi. The resort also offers
Conestoga Wagons that are air-conditioned (yes,
really) and include a fire pit, mini-fridge, microwave and coffee maker. Each
wagon can accommodate up to four, with a king-sized bed and a set of bunk
beds. Two full bathrooms in “The Outhouse” are just a short walk

Town Campground, Nevada City,

The Inn Town Campground is a new, family-owned and operated
campground in the heart of historic Gold Rush Nevada City. The 15-acre
forested campground offers over 20 unique glamping sites so you’re
sure to find something to find your needs. In addition there is a 3000 square
foot communal building with a camp store, kitchen, dining area, living room,
laundry facilities, bathrooms and showers and a season swimming

Lake Tombigbee Campground, Livingston,

Located on Lake Tombigbee and operated by the Alabama-Coushatta
Tribe on Texas’ oldest Indian reservation, this campground is a fun family
destination that offers a choice of log cabins.
The most spacious ones are the cottage-style Chief Oscola and Chief Colabe
Cabins that each feature two bedrooms with full-sized beds, and full-sized
kitchens and baths. The campground also offers rentals of

Pines Campground, Kennebunkport,

Talk about choices! First of all, the campground offers luxurious
Couples Glamp Tents that are restricted to two
adults per tent (no kids, no pets) to give adults a place for a quiet
getaway. Each tent is beautifully decorated with a different theme, such as
Wanderlust, Nautical Nights and Castaway. The campground also offers other
unique retreats for couples, including vintage
, Conestoga Wagons, a
shepherd’s hut and a glass
as well as cozy Couples Camp
. But there are plenty of options for families, too!
There’s a choice of Family Glamp Tents equipped
with either a daybed with trundle inside the main tent or a second, smaller
8×10 tent outfitted with two twin beds and bedding. Each family tent also has
a different theme such as Coastal Comfort, Boho Luxury Nest and Plein Air.
The campground also offers Family Cottages which
are a more spacious version of the Couples Camp Cottages and have a larger
footprint to accommodate one king bed and two single beds. Sandy Pines also
has a heated saltwater pool that’s open in the summer and a Kids’ Kamp with a
playground and games.
