Cove RV Park & Country Store

Brinnon, Washington

Tucked along a scenic stretch of US Highway 101 where the road hugs the western shore of Hood Canal between the small communities of Quilcene and Brinnon, Cove RV Park and Country Store occupies a rare position at the intersection of Olympic Peninsula wilderness and Hood Canal's extraordinarily productive tidal waters. The park sits within earshot of the great fjord—a biologically remarkable arm of Puget Sound ringed by the Olympic Mountains and renowned for world-class oysters, Dungeness crab, shrimp, and sport fishing that attracts devoted harvesting families throughout the year. A combination of full-hookup RV sites, a refreshed country store, and easy access to rivers, beaches, and marine resources makes Cove one of the Olympic Peninsula's most versatile stopovers. Full-hookup sites with 30/50-amp electrical service, water, sewer, and garbage service are complemented by free cable television and Wi-Fi, and loaner bikes invite exploration of the surrounding highway corridor at a pace the car cannot replicate. A horseshoe pit, outdoor checkers table, and a gazebo with an outdoor cooking area serve as the social center for guests who want to gather without driving anywhere. The on-site country store, refreshed under recent ownership with an emphasis on locally sourced and natural foods, provides fresh provisions for camp cooking or pantry supplementing, and showers, laundry, and a Marple Creek-side trail complete the practical amenity lineup. The waters of Hood Canal just across the highway are the park's greatest natural asset—a protected fjord-like inlet whose cold, nutrient-rich water supports the oysters, manila clams, Dungeness crab, and spot shrimp that have sustained the Hood Canal harvest tradition for generations. Recreational clammers and crabbers work the tidal beaches within minutes of camp, and sport fishermen find several productive rivers within easy driving range for salmon and steelhead runs that define Pacific Northwest angling throughout the fall season. The canal's calm surface accommodates kayaking and small-boat exploration of the forested coves and tidal channels that remain largely undeveloped along the western shoreline. Olympic National Park and the Buckhorn Wilderness begin just west of Highway 101, with trailheads accessing the Quilcene River valley, the Dosewallips State Park trails, and the high-country routes into the eastern Olympic Range that remain snow-clad into July. The Hood Canal Floating Bridge, about 20 miles north, connects the Olympic Peninsula to the Kitsap Peninsula and provides a route toward Seattle without navigating south through Olympia. The Theler Wetlands preserve near Belfair and the Staircase area of Olympic National Park offer additional day-trip options for guests who want to sample the full range of the Hood Canal corridor. The Hood Canal harvest seasons dictate much of the year's activity rhythm—razor clam digs, Dungeness crab season, and the salmon runs each draw devoted participants who fill the surrounding parks and campgrounds in their respective windows. Summer brings the most comfortable weather for outdoor exploration, while fall delivers the salmon runs and a quieter atmosphere for visitors who prefer the canal's pace without summer crowds. Check current shellfish and fishing regulations from Washington Department of Fish and Wildlife before planning a harvest trip, as seasonal closures and harvest limits vary by species and location along the canal throughout the year.
