Jellystone Park™ Gardiner
Gardiner, New York
136 RV Sites, 77 Cabins, 19 Tent Sites, 59 Cottages, 2 Houses, 2 Lodges
Jellystone Park Gardiner in Gardiner, New York, sits on 100 rolling acres above the Wallkill River with a majestic view of the Shawangunk Ridge — a Yogi Bear's Jellystone Park franchise property in Ulster County's Hudson Valley that combines the brand's signature family activity programming with one of the most scenically dramatic natural backdrops available to any franchise campground in the northeastern United States, where the white Shawangunk conglomerate ridge that climbers call the Gunks rises above the Wallkill River valley in the 250-million-year-old Silurian quartzite formation that sustains both the world-class rock climbing community and the panoramic viewshed from the ridge's hotel and trail access at Mohonk Mountain House. The campground's Gardiner position gives families the combination of resort-level activity programming and immediate access to the Hudson Valley's most concentrated outdoor recreation landscape.
One hundred rolling acres with Wallkill River access, the Water Zone and Splash Pad, a lazy river, jumping pillow, and the complete Jellystone brand's family entertainment infrastructure give the campground the all-ages activity set that franchise-brand campgrounds specifically deliver. The Wallkill River's presence on the property extends the nature access beyond the brand's programmed activities, and the Shawangunk Ridge's panoramic views from the campground's elevated terrain give the site the visual setting that the Hudson Valley's natural geography specifically provides in this section of Ulster County. Pets are welcome.
The Shawangunk Mountains, rising immediately west of Gardiner, are one of the most important rock climbing areas in the United States — the Shawangunk conglomerate's uniquely horizontal crack systems, the exposed ridge faces above the carriage road cliffs, and the routes at the Trapps and Near Trapps developed by European immigrants and the American climbing community from the 1930s through the 1970s have given the Gunks the status of a foundational American climbing destination that the international climbing community specifically visits for the horizontal crack technique that the conglomerate's bedding plane structure requires in a form unavailable elsewhere. The Mohonk Preserve's day-use and the rock climbing access to the Gunks' 1,000-plus routes draws climbers to the Shawangunk ridge year-round.
New Paltz, five miles east of Gardiner in Ulster County, is a SUNY campus town whose combination of the Wallkill River waterfront, the Huguenot Street historic district (the oldest continuously inhabited street in America, with stone houses built between 1692 and 1712 by French Huguenot settlers), and the Main Street's independent restaurants, climbing shops, and the outdoor recreation economy that the Gunks sustain gives the town the specific character of a rock climber's college town that the New Paltz campus and the climbing community together create.
Jellystone Park Gardiner serves guests through Hudson Valley's camping season from spring through fall, with the summer peak from Memorial Day through Labor Day sustaining the NYC metro family camping demand that Ulster County's Shawangunk proximity and the I-87 Thruway access from New York City specifically generates. The Hudson Valley's fall foliage season from mid-October through early November and the apple and pumpkin harvest that the Hudson Valley's agricultural communities sustain along Route 9W and the Shawangunk Wine Trail give the fall season the specific Hudson Valley harvest character that NYC-proximate campgrounds specifically leverage for the fall foliage trip market. Reserve sites well ahead for summer holiday weekends and fall foliage weekends.
