Action awaits on this historical trip through one of California’s most popular waterways! Beginning just outside of the town of Placerville, this run offers 9 miles of whitewater excitement. Travel through the golden foot hills of the Western Sierra Nevada mountains as warm sun rays envelope your senses. Splashes of cool mountain water invigorate and awaken as you float through one of California’s most historical areas. In 1848 the South Fork of the American River changed the world when gold was first discovered in the stream bed. The California Gold Rush was born creating the largest human migration for a single purpose since the crusades. Today folks are still attracted to the region, not for its gold but for its whitewater. This trip starts off with one of the biggest rapids, “Meat Grinder” in an exciting introduction. Fun filled class II’s and III’s continue throughout the day with something new around each bend.  Rapids continue leading to an exciting Class III drop, “Trouble Maker” to finish the whitewater action on and allowing for a wonderful float through calm pools. Here your guides will entertain you with stories as the boats float by the Marshall Gold Discovery State Park. Join us on an extraordinary adventure for all on our South Fork American- Chile Bar run. With beautiful foothill scenery, fun splashy rapids, all in an area rich in history, this river is the perfect escape on a hot summer day.

The South Fork of the American River cuts through the heart of the Coloma-Lotus Valley, a beautiful setting to start one of the most popular stretches of whitewater in the United States. Our Gorge Run offers 12 miles of river fun and excitement.  The first hour of this trip is fairly easy, creating a perfect setting to learn all the basics of whitewater rafting. After that, the river picks up speed as it enters the lower gorge. Most rapids on the trip are located in this lower section. By this point your guides have trained you and your crew to be a professional rafting team ready for anything. Rapids continually build, walls of water douse from all sides as laughter and cries of joy are heard between the wild waters. One after another the rapids continue until finishing in Folsom Reservoir where a tow out from a jet ski awaits. The South Fork of the American River - Gorge Run is a perfect trip for first time river runners or experienced rafters because of its mellow start, beginner and intermediate rapids, and large waves toward the end. An enjoyable day awaits for you to come and discover this popular river.

This exciting stretch of whitewater is a classic for its large house sized granite boulders, narrow chutes, and steep fun technical rapids. The river cuts through one of the most scenic canyons in the American River drainage so be ready for an extraordinary experience. Class IV rapids begin immediately, one after another. Around each bend, rapids challenge the best of boaters. Be ready to paddle as your guides navigate through the turbulent waters. A break for lunch gives you the opportunity to relax by this naturally flowing river, for the North Fork American River is uninhibited by upstream dams, creating a wild river experience. Since there are no upstream dams this run is only available during spring snowmelt and high water seasons, so it’s important to plan ahead. Come join us on an adrenaline filled day. This trip will sure to give you an amazing experience not available elsewhere.
