Enjoy a morning cave tour followed by lunch at our outpost in Elizabethon before heading upstream to experiencing everything the beautiful Section 5 of the Watauga River.

##Upon Arrival

- When you arrive at our convenient, riverside outpost in Elizabethton Tennessee, you will be personally fitted with top-of-the-line gear. Then, you and your friends and family will load up into a River and Earth Adventures van where our knowledgeable, expert guides will give you a brief scenic tour of the area until we reach our put-in destination. 

- With all your gear, you’ll be ready to undertake the misty, unforgettable beauty of the Watauga. After a thorough and entertaining safety talk by our expert guides, you will hop into your rafts just under the notorious Wilber Dam. After an introductory float trip, you will have the opportunity to jump off a twenty-foot cliff into the brisk waters beneath—a great way to wake you up for the adventure to come! Take pictures or your friends will never believe this invigorating leap of faith.

- After maneuvering through several class one and two rapids you will be prepared for the infamous Anaconda rapid. This class three rapid has become the iconic image for southeastern whitewater. The cascading boulders and hidden holes make this stretch of river an exhilarating adventure for the whole family. Also, make sure to smile for our hidden cameraman ready to capture your surprised faces as you tumble down Anaconda!

- The remainder of your rafting journey will wind through a plethora of smaller rapids and skinny side waters. As you bump and rumble through these rapids it will be impossible to miss the beautiful scenery with plenty of colorful birds and other wildlife. Through the final section of river there are many possibilities to take a quick dip in the river or explore a nearby bank. Your adventure wraps up directly behind our outpost where we provide changing stations.

This is a great activity for folks of all ages and abilities -- no experience is necessary. We offer trips on the New River below the quaint village of Todd -- just 20-25 minutes from Boone! We go on the hour every hour.

Bring along the whole family for this exciting river adventure! Watauga, the Cherokee phrase for ‘sparkling water’ describes this crystal clear, immaculate waters perfectly. As you cruise down river through plentiful class two and three rapids, you will embrace the beautiful surroundings of the Cherokee National Forest and surrounding east Tennessee farmland. Featured as our beginner-rafting trip, the Watauga is appropriate for all ages and skill levels. Please note that on Sundays we do a shorter trip with less rapids on The Trophy Section of the Watauga River rather than Section 5 due to the dam not being released on Sundays.

- This cave consists of over seven miles of large rooms and narrow passages. This is an ideal cave to get introduced to the interesting and adventurous world of caving. This trip is acceptable for a wide range of ages and abilities. Worleys’ cave, near Elizabethton, TN is one of the largest caves in our region.

- Explore rooms like the Hobbit's Hallway, the Fairy's Ballroom, Tombstone, Giant's Causeway, Thin Floor Room, the Hall of Masks, Base Camp, and the Bermuda Triangle. You will be in awe of the cave. This is a fun adventure! Bring your friends! We guarantee this will be one of the best experiences you will ever have.

- Join River & Earth Adventures for an underground caving experience you will never forget! Explore this non-commercial cave (no sidewalks or electricity) with helmets, high power headlamps, and your imagination. Crawl through tunnels and walk through chambers formed over 550 million years ago! - It takes a speleothem (cave formation) about 100 years to grow one cubic inch! Now that’s slow growing!  Now imagine seeing formations over 60 feet tall and spanning nearly 200 feet. Wow!
- The day begins with a 10am meet-up at our Elizabethtown Outpost.  We are usually in the cave anywhere from 2 to 4 hours

**What should I be prepared for physically?**

- This is authentic caving, and there are some things you will need to know before embarking on such an adventure. We compare some of the areas to be as challenging as climbing up onto your kitchen counter. Be prepared to walk over different ground surfaces such as mud, gravel, and shallow water.

- Worley’s cave formed in 550 million-year-old limestone. As you trek through the cave you will be thoroughly educated and entertained by our knowledgeable guides. You will be introduced to the historical and geological significance of the caves as well as learn how they are a vital part of the ecosystem. **What if I’m claustrophobic?**

- Are you claustrophobic? No need to worry; most of the rooms in the cave are big enough to contain a house. With the ceiling 80 feet above your head and rooms ¼ of a mile long you can really relax and enjoy yourself.

During our season, we are open rain or shine, 7 days a week at both locations. If it starts raining during your trip, continue down the river. If it starts thundering or lightning, pull over to the bank and stay in your tube. Generally, storms pass through the mountains quickly. Once the thunder/lightning stops, continue your trip. (REMEMBER we are unable to come and get you off the river once you have started your trip.) We post weather updates on our Facebook page, so check often, and call us if you have any questions. If weather or river levels force us to close, you will have the option to reschedule or receive a full refund without penalty!
