Overview

Park Information

The water's calling. This 1,333-acre park and nature preserve is located at the mouth of the Colorado River on the Matagorda Bay peninsula. Visitors can enjoy miles of beachfront, birdwatching in coastal marshes and wetland paddling. Tent camping and RV amenities are available for overnight stays. There also is a gift shop with snacks and souvenirs and a rental facility available for up to 100 people.

Take TX-288 South to Angleton. Take TX-35 exit toward Angleton/W Columbia/Bay City. Turn Right onto TX-35 S/Jimmy Phillips Blvd & continue on TX-35 S to Bay City. Turn Left onto TX-60 S continue on TX-60 S. Turn Left onto FM 2031/Beach Rd. Turn Right into park.

From Austin:

I-10 take TX-71 E through El Campo approx 53.5 miles. Turn Left on FM1468 into Markham approx 10.4 miles. Turn Left onto TX-35 N into Bay City approx 6.2 miles. Turn Right onto TX-60 S/Avenue F continue onto TX-60 S for approx 21 miles to Matagorda. Turn Left onto FM2031. Turn Right into park.

LCRA Parks Cancellation Policy


Campsites

Reservations cancelled prior to 48 hours before the arrival date will receive a full refund minus any applicable transaction fees. Reservations cancelled within two days (48 hours) of the arrival date will forfeit one night site fee plus any applicable transaction fees.


Cabins

Reservations cancelled prior to 48 hours before the arrival date will receive a full refund minus any applicable transaction fees. Reservations cancelled within two days (48 hours) of the arrival date will forfeit one night site fee plus any applicable transaction fees.


Pavilions

Cancellations must be made 15 days or more prior to the arrival date in order to receive a full refund minus applicable transaction fees. Refunds will not be given if any cancellations are made 14 days or less prior to the scheduled arrival date.


Group Hall

Cancellations must be made 30 days or more prior to the arrival date in order to receive a full refund minus any applicable transaction fees. Reservations cancelled between 29 and 15 days prior to the arrival date will forfeit one night site fee plus any applicable transaction fees. Refunds will not be given if any cancellations are made 14 days or less prior to the scheduled arrival date.


LCRA Parks Rules

1. Picnicking and camping are allowed only in designated areas on LCRA land.

2. Only licensed vehicles are permitted in the parks. ATVs, golf carts and motorized scooters are not allowed.

3. Please drink responsibly. Public consumption or display of alcohol is prohibited.

4. Campfires are allowed only in designated fire rings or barbecue pits. (At Matagorda Bay Nature Park, no open fires are allowed unless contained in an above-ground device with a spark screen installed covering the fire.)

5. Weapons, hunting and trapping are not allowed.

6. Possession or discharge of any kind of fireworks or explosives is prohibited.

7. Swimming is allowed but not within 50 feet of any boat ramp. Swimming is at your own risk; there are no lifeguards. Portable swimming pools or slip slides are prohibited.

8. Protect pets and wildlife by keeping pets on leash in designated camping and picnicking areas; outside designated camping and picnicking areas, pets must be kept under their owner's direct control. Please clean up and properly dispose of all pet waste.

9. Respect quiet hours from 10 p.m. - 6 a.m.

10. Thank you for not littering.

Rates

Each overnight reservation includes two park entrance fees. Any additional entrance fees are collected upon arrival at the park. The entrance fees are as follows per person per day:

Adults - $5

Children (12 and younger) - FREE

Seniors (65 and older) - $2

Disabled - $2

Horse and Rider - $12


For all reservations, there will be a $6 transaction fee. A $6 transaction fee will also be applied to any cancelled or modified (i.e. campsite, date, etc.) reservations.


Checks are no longer accepted as payment for campsites and entrances fees. To pay for a facility rental or event permit by check, please contact park staff at 512-473-3366.


Group events are welcomed. Prior written permission shall be obtained from LCRA Parks for any organized group activity on involving 20 or more individuals. For additional information, please contact LCRA Parks at 1-800-776-5272, ext. 3366.
