Black Hills Station sits in Piedmont, South Dakota, just off Interstate 90 between Rapid City and Sturgis, positioned at the entry point to a concentration of natural and cultural destinations that makes the Black Hills one of the most remarkable destination camping corridors in the American West. The campground's black hills address places it within easy reach of Mount Rushmore, the Crazy Horse Memorial, Custer State Park, Badlands National Park, Spearfish Canyon, and Deadwood—a lineup that would constitute the full itinerary of a two-week South Dakota road trip, reachable as day trips from a single campsite. The campground offers full hookup RV sites with 30 and 50-amp service, water, sewer, and high-speed WiFi throughout the property. Cabins equipped with bedrooms, bathrooms, and kitchens provide enclosed accommodation for guests who prefer a roof overhead. A heated outdoor swimming pool is open seasonally, Bar 46 and Casino on-site provides evening entertainment and dining, and clean bathrooms are maintained year-round. The campground's I-90 location provides immediate interstate access while the surrounding Black Hills landscape delivers the terrain and visual character that makes this region one of the most visited in the Great Plains. Piedmont occupies an interesting geographic position on the eastern slope of the Black Hills—past the dry, open grassland of the western Dakotas but at the edge of the ponderosa pine forest that clothes the hills' ridges and drainages. The elevation here is high enough to deliver genuine mountain character while remaining accessible year-round, and the proximity to Sturgis adds a cultural dimension that peaks spectacularly each August when the Sturgis Motorcycle Rally transforms the surrounding region into the largest motorcycling gathering in the world. Mount Rushmore National Memorial, about 25 miles south, needs little introduction—the four presidential faces carved into Harney Peak granite have defined the Black Hills' identity for nearly a century and remain genuinely impressive at human scale. The Crazy Horse Memorial, under continuous construction since 1948, is an even more ambitious sculpture project whose eventual completion will dwarf Rushmore in scale. Custer State Park, one of the finest state parks in the United States, protects 71,000 acres of ponderosa pine, granite spires, and open meadows home to one of the largest free-roaming bison herds in the world alongside pronghorn, elk, and bighorn sheep. Badlands National Park, about an hour east, adds a geological spectacle of eroded buttes and fossil-rich sediment to the regional itinerary. Black Hills Station operates year-round in a climate where summer delivers warm days ideal for outdoor exploration and winter brings the crisp, snowy conditions that make the Black Hills a legitimate winter destination for snowmobiling and cross-country skiing. Peak summer demand from June through August is driven by national park tourism and the motorcycle rally, and reservations well in advance are essential for Sturgis Rally week if camping in the Piedmont corridor is the plan.

Good location however a little noisy because it’s located along side the I-80 but it was tolerable—not a problem. Bruce showed us to our site, very friendly. Park had very few campers and what appeared to be a couple residents so he allowed us to use hookups on site next to us to accommodate our hookups. We w...Show more
