Boat Assisted (Base Camp) Kayak Tours. On these tours, we use a powerboat to transport the kayaks, our guests and gear to a remote location where we setup a base camp typically on a remote island beach. From the base camp, we make daily paddle excursions to areas that most paddlers simply do not have time to get to and few have experienced. Of course, a sunrise and/or sunset paddle at the base camp should be part of the daily experience!

The additional carrying capacity of the Kayak Transport Boat allows us to supply additional amenities and creature comforts to our guests such as sun showers, sunshades, tables, large coolers, camp chairs, etc. These Boat Assisted Base Camp trips are wonderful for those that wish to explore different areas of the Park and do not have the time to paddle to each area. For those who feel "being there" is more important than "paddling there", this is the trip for you.

However, most of the 1.5 million acres in the Park are flooded and essentially out of reach for the average birder and photographers. Everglades Area Tours can you take you to areas seldom reach by others.

Our tours are never "canned", so each tour is different. The area's wildlife moves around in order to exist in their world and so must we. Many species are seasonal and inhabit different areas in different environmental conditions, so too, we must be able to adapt. The whole area and your photography/birding opportunities change with the seasons, therefore so do our tours. Sometimes we need to run deep into the Park's interior to reach a shoot location or species. Other times, the wildlife is close by.

Lighting considerations can influence a shoot and many photographers wish to shoot early in the mornings or late in the evenings. However, tidal considerations are even more important, especially for shooting wading birds as they need shallow water to feed. Many photographers enjoy shooting while standing in the water or on a remote sand beach.

All private photography tours are customized based on your desires, the season, the wildlife and the weather. You and your guide discuss your needs, wants and the possible options prior to your tour.

The use of a power boat typically provides the most flexibility for photographers. A flat-decked boat is your shooting platform and has room for one tripod.

The power boat is also the only practical way to shoot some of the spectacular island beaches and landscapes at sunrise and sunset.

You can elect to have the option to have a Professional Outdoor Photographer/Instructor for a personalized Photography Workshop

Led by Florida Master Naturalists, these kayak eco-tours depart daily to the beautiful 10,000 Islands of Everglades National Park, in the habitat of manatees, dolphins, sea turtles and vast numbers of wading and shorebirds. We launch from Chokoloskee Island, the closest access to the Everglades National Park.

The tour routes that we choose vary daily and seasonally. You may paddle to a rookery where hundreds of wading birds nest in a colony; find yourself surrounded by feeding manatees or dolphins; walk on a Calusa Indian shell mound, thousands of years old; or paddle with the tidal currents up a river to view endangered roseate spoonbills or small toothed sawfish.

Many guests choose a private experience. Tours conducted privately are more intimate... just you and your guide. The Everglades area is a vast and varied ecosystem containing the largest mangrove forest in North America. Throughout the forest are brackish "lakes" whose waters are a mix of "sweet" freshwater and saltwater. This is part of what makes the Everglades so special. These lakes, surrounded by mangroves, are refuges and nursery grounds for herons, egrets, stilts, ducks, wood storks, spoonbills, alligators, otters and a gamut of fishes. This is where the Everglades transition from freshwater to saltwater and is a wonderful place to experience.

Interconnecting these lakes are narrow, flowing tidal creeks. The mangrove forest grows to the very edge and even over the tops of these creeks forming a canopy or a tunnel. The sunlight (or moonlight) shimmering through the canopy, the stillness of the forest vegetation and the sounds of the forest itself, make for a surreal and mystical experience in the tunnels. The dense canopy regulates moisture and humidity allowing orchids, mosses, and bromeliads to thrive. A moonlight tour or sunset tour in the tunnels can be something you will never forget.
