Split Rock Park Campground

Split Rock Park Campground in Garretson, South Dakota, offers seven RV sites with 30-amp electric service and 20 tent sites on the banks of Split Rock Creek, sized for rigs to 40 feet with fire pits and picnic tables. Split Rock Creek cuts through exposed pink Sioux quartzite to form a natural waterfall and narrow gorge — a landscape of ancient bedrock and clear spring-fed water that contrasts sharply with the flat agricultural plains surrounding Garretson. A boat ramp gives paddlers direct launch access, with fishing, canoeing, and kayaking from the creek, and a playground for families. At 80 feet the pull-thrus take the longest coaches — genuinely useful on a cross-Nebraska run. Laundry, a bathhouse with showers, a general store, and firewood cover the essentials. The bath house and laundry are keypad-locked; the campground provides the codes at check-in. Pets are welcome. A ball field, a playground, and horseshoes fill the grounds, in a campground built as much around the gathering space as the sites. Merna sits at the junction of Highway 2 and Highway 92 in the heart of the Sandhills — the 19,000-square-mile grass-stabilized dune system that is the largest of its kind in the Western Hemisphere, and one of the darkest night skies in the country. Lakeshore RV Park in Ortonville, Minnesota, offers six full-hookup RV sites, two cabins, and four tent sites on Big Stone Lake, with 20, 30, and 50-amp service and rigs accepted to 60 feet.
