White's Haven Campground & Cabins

Clarington, Pennsylvania

At 3058 Cathers Run Road in Clarington, Pennsylvania—in Forest County on the edge of Cook Forest State Park where the old-growth white pine and hemlock forest, the Clarion River's cold freestone current, and the specific remote character of the Allegheny high plateau create the northwestern Pennsylvania natural landscape that most Pennsylvania residents east of Pittsburgh have never experienced in its full undeveloped scale—White's Haven Campground offers 175-plus full hookup campsites, tent sites, and cabin rentals in the shaded mature-forest setting that Cook Forest's surrounding canopy makes available to a campground adjacent to one of the East Coast's most intact old-growth forest state parks. The Cook Forest State Park adjacency and the Clarion River proximity define what separates White's Haven from a comparable amenity-count campground in a less significant natural setting. More than 175 full hookup campsites with water, sewer, and electric connections provide the infrastructure for the full range of RV sizes on shaded sites within the surrounding mature hardwood and hemlock forest. Tent sites serve the lightweight camping guest in a wooded environment that the regional second-growth and old-growth forest mix makes particularly atmospheric. Cabin rentals provide the enclosed lodging alternative for guests without RV equipment or families seeking a fixed shelter in the Forest County wilderness setting. An on-site convenience store and propane service handle the daily supply needs without requiring a Clarington-area commercial drive. A private fishing pond stocked for angling provides the immediate fish-in-the-morning option that bypasses the Clarion River trout fishing permit requirement. A free playground, coin-operated laundry, and clean restroom facilities complete the practical amenity infrastructure. The dedicated property management team's focus on maintained grounds and site cleanliness reflects the owner-operated character that smaller campgrounds in rural Pennsylvania forest communities preserve by priority. Cook Forest State Park—accessible from the campground within minutes—contains the most significant remaining stand of old-growth white pine and hemlock forest in the northeastern United States, concentrated in the Forest Cathedral Natural Area where trees exceeding 300 years of age reach 150-plus feet in height and create the cathedral canopy effect that the Forest Cathedral name accurately describes. Hiking the Longfellow Trail through the old-growth section is one of the most genuinely humbling natural experiences available in any Pennsylvania state park—the scale and age of the trees, the silence beneath the canopy, and the visual distance from the forest floor to the crown create the specific old-growth encounter that no second-growth forest replicates. The Clarion River flowing minutes from the campground provides the fly fishing and canoeing access that the river's designation as a Pennsylvania Scenic River reflects. The Clarion's cold, clear water above the reservoir supports wild brown and brook trout in the upper reaches, and canoe and kayak launch points on the Clarion River Road access the gentle Class I-II current that makes the Clarion one of the most paddler-friendly rivers in northwestern Pennsylvania. The Allegheny National Forest—the largest national forest in Pennsylvania at over 515,000 acres—extends the public lands recreation available from the Clarington base in hiking, mountain biking, and the Allegheny Reservoir's boating season. White's Haven Campground is open seasonally for daily, monthly, and seasonal campers. The spring trout fishing opener, summer family camping weeks, and the fall foliage season—when Cook Forest's old-growth canopy turns the Clarion River valley orange and red in October—create the three demand peaks that reserve sites earliest. Book the shaded full hookup site early, pack the fly rod, and let Cook Forest's old-growth cathedral earn the superlative that every guide to Pennsylvania nature has assigned it for a generation.
